EP Services

Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C. has five cardiologists on staff who specialize in electrophysiology (EP). Cardiac electrophysiologists require special training and experience in addition to their cardiology training.

A cardiac electrophysiologist diagnoses and treats heart rhythm abnormalities. Most heart rhythm abnormalities can be diagnosed on an electrocardiogram. Other abnormalities require further testing, with a procedure called an Electrophysiology Study (EP). During an EP Study, catheters are placed within the heart via the large blood vessels. These catheters are placed near several areas within the heart in order to record and stimulate the electrical impulses of the heart.

Some abnormal heart rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias) can be cured with Catheter Ablation. Once the origin of the arrhythmia is identified, energy is delivered to the tip of the catheter. This energy changes (ablates) the abnormal tissue eliminating the abnormal rhythm circuit or focus.

Some heart rhythm abnormalities may be treated with special antiarrhythmic medications. Other arrhythmias may require a permanent pacemaker or automatic intracardiac defibrillator (AICD) implantation. The electrophysiology team consists of your electrophysiologist, specially trained clinical personnel and can also include representatives from research and device company providers.

The electrophysiologists are available for outpatient office visits and consultations at the following locations:
