Practitioners
Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants assist our Physicians in providing the best care for patients with heart failure, heart attacks, angina, cardiac, and vein diseases as permitted by their licensure.
Christi Nelson
MSN, ARNP, FNP
Christi Nelson is a Nurse Practitioner who works with Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Witcik, caring for patients with Cardiovascular Disease. She has expanded her clinical expertise supporting Dr. Ahmad, Sleep Specialist, with patients in CVM’s Sleep Clinic. She started her nursing career in the Emergency Department in 1991, later becoming a Nurse Practitioner. She has worked in Family Medicine Outpatient Clinics most of her career. More recently, she worked in Telemedicine and Acute Care at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Christi began her education at the University of Illinois and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Marycrest College in 1991. She furthered her education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and received her Masters of Science upon completion of the Family Nurse Practitioner program in 1996.
Christi is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Christi’s professional interests include the management and prevention of cardiovascular disease. She hopes to help her patients improve their outcomes through education and increase their understanding of their disease. Outside of work, she and her husband enjoy spending time with their three daughters and their pets, being active outdoors and traveling.
